Our
Mission
Our mission is to educate and inspire parents of adolescents
as well as to advance communication and understanding
with our teens.
Who We Are
The Parents' Coalition of Bay Area High Schools is
an organization made up of volunteer parents from
independent and public schools within the Bay Area.
Our Goal
The Coalition strives to build community bridges by
bringing adolescents, parents and professionals together
to share information on various topics, to find solutions
to parenting challenges, and to counter feelings of
frustration and isolation that both adolescents and
parents encounter through the adolescence journey.
History to Present
The Coalition began in 1994 as a grassroots response
to the challenges of parenting teenagers, such as
use of alcohol and illegal substances, and has grown
exponentially. We look at both teen and parent relationships.
Often when teenagers struggle, parents do not know
how to help. Parents also feel isolated from other
parents, yet desire a connection to other parents
who are experiencing the same issues. The Coalition
offers a platform, or bridge to discuss a broad range
of concerns confronting parents.
Parent Representatives
Parent representatives from individual high schools
serve as a vital link to each school's parent body.
Representatives report directly back to their own
parent association. Our aim is to complement the parent
education programs of schools with additional programs
of common interest.
Speakers and Forums
Each year, the Coalition hosts an annual Speakers
Forum Series. These nationally renowned speakers and
authors present expert information and advice on adolescent
issues and teen culture. Our spring forum is a moderated
teen panel presentation in which teens from various
schools share their experiences and insights on various
topics. All forums are open to the public and take
place at different schools in San Francisco.
Newsletter
Our quarterly newsletter, Parenteen, offers regular
columns by professionals and parents to help parents
better appreciate and understand the developmental
and social complexities of the teen years.
We invite you to become involved in the Coalition.
